- SOME PICTURE POSTCARDS FROM OUR 5 YEARS OF RESIDENCY -

The new Corniche under development

Kuwait Towers

The Sharq Mall & Marina

September is the time for gathering the dates

Now for some of the themed alternative views:

- WATER FOUNTAINS -

For the convenience of travellers, these dispensers are found throughout Kuwait in public areas or attaching buildings, such as houses.

Soccer Ball

Painted Water Bottle

Kuwait's Liberation Tower

The Tower of London or a baby's bottle?

A mini version of the large water towers near Bayan

A mosque

An urn

A traditional Arabic door

A more basic style close to a school

A tiled version next to a mosque

At the garden gate of a house

A beachfront fort with wooden door

Outside someone's house, this design has a New Orleans French Quarter feel, and perfectly offsets the old French car

This fort is close a residential complex

A wishing well

One of the Kuwait towers

Chairs also provided

A plastic water bottle

A weather station

Another style of urn

 - SOME OTHER VIEWS -

A new mosque and a modern glass-fronted 'minaret'

Blue tiled mosque

Despite the rubbish spelling, local beaches are sadly always left covered in trash for the army of 3rd World workers to clean up afterwards

A man on the beach smoking a water pipe, shisha or 'hubble-bubble'

It has become very politically correct in places such as Britain to remove many signs of Christmas for fear of 'causing offence' to other religions such as Islam. This is strange since in most Islamic countries, such as Kuwait, Christmas is openly celebrated. After all, Jesus is an Islamic prophet too, albeit a minor one. This display is in the middle of our the Salmiya souk

We liked the juxtaposition of a sign that almost suggests exotic lingerie and the less stylish clothing on display!

An ostentatious colour scheme for a new apartment block, not to everyone's taste

The 'beehive' mosque

Cat Fish: Hundreds of feral cats live amongst the rocks along the Corniche. They survive by mobbing fishermen.......

......or stay content on all the fast food leftovers from the many restaurants and bins. KFC = Kuwaiti Fat Cat

Another recent ornately tiled mosque, with yet another new apartment block rising

Some angles make mosques appear to be sponsored

Our local tree house - a room to rent for social functions (and yes, those are real palm trees planted on the roof)

Out with old and in with the new. There is very little left of 'old Kuwait'.

- KUWAITIS & THEIR CARS -

There's a lot of money around in Kuwait which means that it has rapidly become a consumer society, including many expensive cars. Unfortunately, many of the youngsters have more money than sense, and many wrecks can be found after a weekend's reckless driving, followed by obituary notices in the papers. In 2005, Kuwait was rated 5 in the league of the most dangerous places to drive in the world. Here are some candidates for the 'Wreck of the Week':

You can certainly create a buzz in this stretch Hummer
