The WILSON/WILLSON Family of C18th Brinsley & Greasley, Notts.

Seeking ancestry and descendants of Abiel/Abel WILSON (n. <1675-1725) who married Ann HIDES on 29.6.1695 & then Isobel DODSON in June 1711. My 8xGGPs. The WILSON family name may have originated from the north of England (see map). Greasley became a populous parish by the early C19th with the development of the mining industry. There is also the village of Wilson in Leicestershire, parish of Breedon on the Hill.

A daughter Hannah WILSON was born c1700 to Abiel & Ann WILSON. A son William WILSON was also born around 1710/1711, possibly to Ann, and may have accounted for her death in May 1711. The reason for the quick marriage after his first wife's death may have been to have someone to look after his two young children. There are no records for any children of Abel & Isobel. William was mentioned in Abel's Will of 1725 (granted in 1729).

Abel's son (mother uncertain) William WILSON married Ann (of unknown family) c1729, my 7xGGPs. The marriage may have been the one at Sibthorpe on 5.10.1728 between William WILSON & Ann HALLAM. Children of William & Ann were:
