This page summarizes particular lines of
enquiry that were unsuccessful. 1. W H SHILVOCK - Watercolour Artist "We have a watercolour signed by a "W. H.. SHILVOCK". We think the picture was done in the late 1800's or early 1900's. Do you have any information about this person that you could give us?" Kathy Sweeney Status: Unfortunately Kathy has not supplied any more information on the subject matter, i.e. country & place of purchase, or whether this has been passed down through her family. A photograph of the picture could be added to this page in case any current clan member recognised the scene. This may assist deciding who the artist may be. It may be William Henry who lived in Chicago until 1927 but there is no proof as yet. W H could either be a William or Walter Henry based on known family names of the time. There are no females known with those initials, and most references appear to be C19th. Another possibility is a William Henry SHILVOCK who in the Second World War was recorded in the London Gazette #37144: 22nd June 1945 - William Henry SHILVOCK, M.B. As Serving Brother in THE GRAND PRIORY IN THE BRITISH REALM OF THE VENERABLE ORDER OF THE HOSPITAL OF ST. JOHN OF JERUSALEM. No more is known of this person. Of particular interest is whether there are any more paintings out there. The Royal Academy and the Royal Watercolour Society in London, as well as various auction houses and art museums in London have no references to the name, so we are assuming a gifted amateur. 2. "The World Book of SHELVOCKs" In the 1990's a firm was selling these books through family history circles under the pretext of genealogical data. What they contained was only extracts from the world's telephone directories for everyone with a particular surname. This was of limited value to the family historian, except those with One Name Study interests. If anyone purchased the SHELVOCK book and would be happy to pass a copy on to me, please let me know.
