The ROWLAND Family of Late C17th Notts.


Distribution of the family name in 1881.


Head of family is
Robert ROWLAND, Yeoman of Radcliffe on Soar, who married Ann HARRIMAN of Hathern, LEI on 19.11.1707 at Nottingham St Mary (my 7xGGPs). He was buried 13.5.1720 at Radcliffe. Their children:

  • Susannah ROWLAND (c. 21.11.1708) married William HAYWOOD on 1.11.1729 at Costock, Notts. (my 6xGGPs);

  • Benjamin ROWLAND (c. 22.11.1712). Possibly the Benjamin ROWLAND of Radcliffe on Soar, Husbandman (30), who married Mary BOSWORTH of same (33), widow, at St Nicholas - 7.10.1738 [bond by John WOOLHOUSE of Nottingham, FWK];

  • John ROWLAND;

  • Joseph ROWLAND;

  • Liddea (Lydia) ROWLAND

    The last 3 children were all c. 25.10.1720, after their father's death.

Robert ROWLAND left no Will, but Ann ROWLAND probably the widow re-married 25.2.1720 St Peter, Nottingham = Isaac REDFERN (bo Radcliffe)
(Note: Feb. 1720/21 came after May 1720 (year began on March 25th)

A William ROWLAND of Stamford, farmer (25) Bachelor = Mary
HICKINBOTHAM (23), spinster at Ratcliffe on Soar 30.9.1769

There are ROWLANDs at nearby East Leake 1671-90. Brief extracts from East Leake wills:
William ROWLAND 1.4.1703 (a Shepherd) details of bequest to daughters
Ales and Sara and his wife (un-named)
William ROWLAND 13.1.1768 - son William ROWLAND, daughters May LOCKWOOD & Rebecca CROSS
