The HUBBARD Family of Plumtree, Nottinghamshire


The family name derives from King Hubba, a Danish conqueror who raided East Anglia in the C9th century, probably a locational name from one of the many towns of the time named Hubbard. Even today (2000-2005 data), the majority of bearers of the name reside within the old Dane law.

Robert HUBBARD (1532-1605) of Plumtree, Nottinghamshire (my 11xGGF), had the following children:

  • Margery HUBBARD (1558);

  • Alice HUBBARD (1560);

  • Robert HUBBARD (1562);

  • Richard HUBBARD (1562) m. Elizabeth CLYFFE (1561) in 1582 in Cotgrave, Nottinghamshire (my 10xGGPs). Children at Plumtree:

    • Isabella HUBBARD (1583);

    • John HUBBARD (1589-1654), m. Isabell SCOFFIELD (1587-1651) on 24.1.1608 in Cotgrave (my 9xGGPs). Their children in Plumtree:

      • un-named female HUBBARD (1609-1609);

      • Thomas HUBBARD (1610 );

      • Isabella HUBBARD (1614)

      • John HUBBARD (1618)

      • Ursula HUBBARD (1619-74), m. John BALDOCK (1614-78) of Plumtree at Colston Bassett, Notts., on 7.5.1642 (my 8xGGPs);
