unknown family) prior to 1738. Humphrey may be the one buried at
Holy Trinity, Lenton on 2.2.1759 (NBI).
Couple had the
following children baptised at Lenton, Notts.: John
HOPKIN (c.
14.11.1738; d. by 1742), John
HOPKIN (c.
2.5.1742) and Sarah
HOPKIN (c.
13.2.1749). Sarah
HOPKIN of
Lenton had a son William
HOPKIN aka
William
BLATHERWICK (c.
1.1771). She then married as HOPKINS William
BLATHERWICK,
Carpenter of Bulcote on 31.3.1771 at Lenton.
Note: There are
references to a number of Humphrey HOPKINs in Lenton for over 120
years (c1720-1841+). It may be a popular regional name of
indicative of a family connection.
At Ilkeston in
1768 a bastardy case was brought against John HOPKIN of
Lenton, Notts farmer by Elizabeth FULLWOOD single, with a
female child.
