The family name probably derives from the manor of Clyffe Pypard, Wiltshire, Cliffe Castle, Keighley, S. Yorks or a number of Lancs. & Yorks. villages usually proximal to a cliff, particularly near a river.
Richard HUBBARD (1562) m. Elizabeth CLYFFE (1561) in 1582 in Cotgrave, Nottinghamshire (my 10xGGPs). They had children at Plumtree.
