Distribution of the family
name in 1881Head of tree is Richard BROOKE (my 11xGGF) who married Francis ROYDES on 16.12.1623 at Hartshead. Francis was buried there 4.8.1637.
Richard & Francis BROOKE had at least 4 known children (christened): Richard BROOKE (23.1.1624), Grace BROOKE (2.3.1626), Arthur BROOKE (22.2.1627) & Elizabeth BROOKE (1.5.1632) at Hartshead. Grace could be the daughter married into the PEELE family mentioned in the Will below. Other children could be Martha BROOKE & Timothy BROOKE.
Richard BROOKE the Younger (wife unknown) had the following children (christened): ?Edward BROOKE , Judith BROOKE (25.4.1645), Edward BROOKE (11.12.1645 & buried the same day) at Hartshead & Sarah BROOKE of Mirfield (13.10.1646). Sarah BROOKE (my 9xGGP) married William GLEADLE or GLEDHILL in 1669.
Extract from the Will of a Richard
BROOKE of Birstall in 1664:
"To Joshua, son of my
daughter Grace PEELE (certain
lands) for 2 years after my decease, then to his sister Elizabeth
for two more years, then to his sister Deborah
for two more years, then to his sister Lydia for
two more years, then to his sister Ruth
for 2 more years, then to Samuel & Timothy
POLLARD, younger sons of my daughter Martha POLLARD for ever. To
Timothy
BROOKE my son 12d and no more, because he hath
been more than sufficiently preferred before."
